Severn Trent fined £2 million over illegal sewage discharge

Severn Trent Water has been fined more than £2 million after illegally discharging 260 million litres of raw sewage into the River Trent. The incident occurred following failures at the company’s Strongford Wastewater Treatment Works (WTW) near Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, between November 2019 and February 2020.
