SEW social tariff helping 7,000

South East Water’ social tariff is helping more than 7,000 customers to pay their water bills less that 18 months after being established.

The company also created the Customer Care Team to run alongside the social tariff as part of its range of measures to help customers struggling to pay their water bill.

South East Water customer services director Steve George said: “We encourage our customers to contact us as soon as possible if they are facing difficulty with their bill.

“Our specially trained Customer Care Team talks through the range of payment options available as well as the special tariffs and support we offer.

“This includes our new social tariff which for eligible customers can result in up to a 40 per cent reduction being applied to their current tariff.”

The Consumer Council for Water (CCWater) has worked with 19 water companies to help launch social tariff schemes, which can reduce the amount low-income households have to pay for their water.

CCWater senior policy manager Andy White said: “Although there is now more help than ever before to support water customers, thousands of struggling households continue to miss out.

“We would urge anyone struggling to afford their water bill to let their company know so they can help.”
