Baroness Margaret McDonagh has been appointed chairman of the newly formed smart meter Central Delivery Body (CDB).
The Labour peer will take up her position when the CDB formally comes into existence on 30 June 2013.
She said: “This new organisation will be key in engaging customers, informing them about their meters and allowing greater involvement with and control over their own energy consumption.”
McDonagh was previously the general secretary of the Labour Party, and has spent several years as a non-executive director at Standard Life and TBI.
The CDB, which was set up by Energy UK on behalf of the large suppliers, will be responsible for building consumer confidence and awareness in the rollout, and informing customers of the benefits of the smart meters.
Angela Knight CBE, chief executive of Energy UK, said: “The process of setting up the Central Delivery Body has been an extremely interesting one for Energy UK. We look forward to seeing the new organisation operating on its own two feet and, in time, start educating customers about the benefits of smart meters.”
