South West Water has invested £3 million in solar panels to help power 23 water and sewage treatment works since December 2011.
Four of the sites have the capacity to generate 100 kW each and the remainder can produce up to 50 kW.
The new photovoltaics join hydro-electric, wind and biogas plants in the water company’s renewable energy portfolio.
Project manager James Pearce said: “Generating renewable energy for use on South West Water’s operational sites reduces electricity costs and will have a positive impact on South West Water’s customers’ bills into the future.”
