Richard Price, Southern Water’s director of engineering and construction concluded his 24-year career with the water company last week.
Having joined Southern Water as a graduate engineer, Price took on his most recent role in April 2015 and was responsible for delivering more than £1.5 million of construction every day across water and wastewater projects.
According to his profile on professional networking website LinkedIn, Price led “the establishment of the new capital delivery operation for 2015 to 2025 (AMP6 and AMP7)”.
This included such responsibilities as driving “safety, delivery, innovation and efficiency across the multi-billion pound capital programme”.
A chartered civil engineer with a background in operations, asset management, customer excellence and construction, Price has also been a director and trustee of Southern Water’s pension scheme for several years and a past national chairman of the pipeline industries guild.
Ian McAulay, chief executive of Southern Water, told Utility Week: “Richard joined the company as a graduate in 1994 and has been involved in many of our biggest projects. Such as the innovative waste treatment works at Peacehaven. We wish him well in his future ventures.”
Price was also a chief flying instructor for five years in the RAF reserve completing more than 4,500 sorties, flying gliders and motor gliders, at RAF Manston.
In 2015, Southern Water won the Capital Project Management category at the Utility Week Awards. Paying tribute to the workforce of more than 100 whose efforts helped the company win the award, Price, said: “I’m delighted our work has been recognised at such a high level.”
On LinkedIn, Price is now listed as a director of Richard Price Consulting.
Utility Week understands Neil Coleman has taken over Price’s role as director of engineering and construction at Southern Water with immediate effect.
