SSE subsidiaries Scottish Hydro Electric Power Distribution (SHEPD) and Southern Electric Power Distribution (SEPD) have resumed normal operations following a string of severe weather events across the UK.
Parts of the electricity network suffered 80mph winds from late Wednesday night to early Thursday morning which resulted in loss of power to 1,160 Scottish and 2,300 south England households, prompting SSE to mobilise more than 1,000 extra engineering and technical staff.
Last week SSE engineers fought to restore power to 45,000 households following storm damage to the network on Friday evening.
SEPD, which serves 2.9 million customers, said it worked with councils and emergency services to “ensure vulnerable customers were looked after”.
SSE’s head of operations Bev Keogh said the company had invested £95m in strengthening the network against severe weather and had, on the whole, “withstood the challenges”.
Keogh also apologised to customers for any inconvenience they had been caused.
