SSE’s water retail arm has today joined trade association Water UK as the sector prepares for non-household retail competition.
SSE Water provides water and sewerage services to large scale household developments and business customers throughout England and Wales via inset agreements, and currently serves customers in more than 20 areas.
Its membership of Water UK comes as the trade association responds to market opening in 2017 “to reflect and represent the full diversity of the industry as it evolves”.
Water UK chief executive Pamela Taylor said: “I am delighted SSE Water has joined Water UK. Our growing membership demonstrates that we are open to all companies in the industry, whether they are large established names or smaller challengers.
“SSE Water will give us different perspectives and new ideas, and will benefit from working in closer partnership with our existing members.”
SSE Enterprise Utilities managing director Nathan Sanders added: “Joining Water UK is a natural step as we continue to grow our business.
“There are lots of changes happening in the sector, and joining Water UK will allow us to contribute to and share in industry developments.”
