SSEN appoints Peacock for asset management cloud migration

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) Transmission has appointed enterprise asset management solutions specialist, Peacock Engineering, as part of its digital investment strategy for RIIO-T2.

The multi-year managed cloud service and delivery contract will see Peacock Engineering work with SSEN Transmission to migrate the energy giant’s current infrastructure into the cloud.

Using an IBM Maximo cloud-based solution fully managed by Peacock, the new asset management system will help SSEN Transmission efficiently maintain its assets, such as powerlines and electricity towers.

This will see SSEN to access both real-time and historic asset data, undertake total work management for maintaining its assets, inventory, and supply chains, and gain full understanding of costs to support its asset management strategy.

It’s hoped that this will cut asset downtime, increase the lifespan of assets and help achieve regulatory compliance.

Migrating SSEN Transmission’s current system into the cloud also aims to negate outdated and costly paper-based processes and integrate with other key asset management and operational applications to provide a richer view of assets across SSEN Transmission’s network across the north of Scotland.

Ultimately, according to Peacock CEO, Alan Cambridge, it also allows users to monitor data that is critical to asset performance, maintenance and compliance, as well as safety and efficiency for all employees and contractors.

Running from 1 April 2021 to 31 March 2026, SSEN’s RIIO-T2 business plan is underpinned by ambitions to transport renewable energy that powers 10 million homes, achieving 100% network reliability, delivering every connection on time, slashing greenhouse gas emissions by a third and making £100 million in efficiency savings from innovation.

The firm forecasts that this will cost between £470 million and £750 million each year, or around £7 for the average British household each year.
