The Energy Research Partnership has called for significant investment in energy storage to prevent Britain becoming reliant on gas and diesel engines to fill gaps in renewable generation. The group said funding for storage research has tended to be drawn towards short-duration lithium-ion batteries due to the lure of the rapidly growing electric vehicle market and that more must be channelled toward medium and long-duration storage technologies.
