The National Infrastructure Commission has called for a concerted effect from the government and industry to develop a whole-system approach to resilience to prevent a repeat of the problems seen over the summer. It says the recent blackout on the power grid and the partial collapse of the Whaley Bridge dam highlight the need for a greater understanding of how the “cascade effect” can impact the resilience of interconnected infrastructure.
