Supersewer and small solar make global infrastructure top 100 list

The Thames Tunnel and a South London community solar project were among seven UK schemes to make it onto a top 100 urban infrastructure list compiled by KPMG.

The former, a controversial “supersewer” planned by Thames Water to run deep under London was described as a “huge undertaking” that was “desperately needed”.

The latter, Brixton Solar One, is on a much smaller scale but “charmed judges with ambition and community spirit”.

It is pioneering a community-led approach, raising £75,000 through a share offer to residents and local businesses.

Part of the income from solar installed under the scheme at the economically deprived Loughborough Estate is to be reinvested in energy efficiency measures.
