Survey says small firms beat big six for customer satisfaction

Independent energy companies last year provided much better customer service than their ex-monopoly counterparts, according to an annual customer satisfaction survey by Which?

Small firms claimed the top five spots, with Good Energy rated the highest by customers, followed by Utility Warehouse, Ecotricity, Ovo Energy and Ebico.

The bottom five firms were E.ON, First Utility, Scottish Power, EDF Energy with Npower taking the wooden spoon for customer satisfaction. Just above them was British Gas, which the survey suggested gave average service.

Of the big six, only SSE customers rated it above average for customer satisfaction.

Which? also said customers should take unresolved complaints to the ombudsman. It calculated that consumers last year could have claimed around £4 million in compensation had they done so.
