Energy UK has recorded the highest number of switches for a July since it started records as 273,122 customers switched energy supplier last month.
Although only 85 more than the number who switched in 2012, the previous highest July, it is an increase of almost 50,000 on the 225,524 that switched in July last year.
Switches in July increased by 14,464 on the number in June, but are significantly lower than the 417,394 switches seen in March, the highest month of the year so far following a government switching campaign.
Independent suppliers gained 74,405 customers in July, 27 per cent of switches, which is a consistent percentage for the year so far.
Energy UK’s chief executive Lawrence Slade said: “We often forget about energy over the summer months. But now is the right time to look at your energy consumption and make sure you are on the best deal for you.”
Independent suppliers reached a 12.6 per cent share of the dual fuel market in June.
