Members of the Association for Organics Recycling (AfOR) have approved a merger with the Renewable Energy Association (REA) today (Tuesday, 4 September).
The move will see the REA grow to more than 1,000 members for the first time when the integration of AfOR is completed by the end of the year.
The two associations have already been working together for two years on the biofertiliser and green gas certification schemes. The merger will allow the newly expanded REA to have a greater focus on anaerobic digestion and other renewable energy schemes.
REA Chairman Martin Wright said: “the scientific and technical expertise of the AfOR staff will greatly enhance the REA’s advocacy on behalf of the organic waste-to-energy sector.”
Energy and Climate Change minister Greg Barker said the move was “bringing AfOR’s expertise on anaerobic digestion and waste management to the table” and added he was looking forward to working with them in the future on anaerobic digestion and other green issues.
