A new Utility Week report, produced in association with HCL Technologies and HCL Volt MX, explores the role of technology in allowing utilities to communicate quickly and effectively with field forces tackling the impact of extreme weather.
Following a winter of unprecedented storms which wreaked havoc on critical infrastructure across the UK, improving network resilience has never been more important. With Ofgem’s review into the distribution network operators’ (DNOs’) response to Storm Arwen ongoing, there is increased focus across the sector on what lessons can be learnt to help boost the response to future extreme weather.
This report examines the challenges facing DNOs during and after severe storms as they attempt to maintain effective communication channels – particularly in remote locations – with field operatives, with customers and with other utilities.
Featuring contributions from Energy Networks Association, UK Power Networks, Electricity North West and Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks, this report also looks at how innovation can help networks as they seek to better support field teams, while also improving security of supply to customers.
