Three workers have been injured following an accident at EDF Energy’s Heysham 1 nuclear power plant in Lancashire.

In a statement, EDF Energy said the incident occurred on Monday (19 November) evening.

The three workers were taken to hospital, where they are receiving treatment for their injuries.

Two workers are being treated at a hospital in Preston and the other at a hospital in Wythenshawe.

“It goes without saying that everyone’s thoughts are with our three colleagues who have been injured, we will be doing everything we can to support them and their families while they recover,” said EDF Energy in the statement.

“There was no risk to the public during the incident which is now under control. A full investigation into the cause will be carried out.

“Safety is our overriding priority and we will investigate how this happened and make sure all measures necessary are put in place to ensure it doesn’t happen again. “
