United Utilities invites law firms to compete for contracts

Firms tender for £500 million to advise on investment

United Utilities has invited law firms to tender for contracts worth up to £500 million, as part of the water firm’s AMP6 investment programme.

Successful legal representatives will advise on United Utilities capex investment programme for the remainder of AMP6. The work will involve advising on the construction and operation of the company’s infrastructure, as well as future financing.

The new contracts are being offered in the wake of regulatory changes and the opening of the non-household retail market to competition.

United Utilities total capex investment programme for AMP6 is approximately £3.6 billion, following the announcement in May 2017 of a further £100 million being made available.

The legal work is expected to amount to between £100 million and £500 million.

Previous legal advisers to United Utilities have included Addleshaw Goddard, Eversheds Sutherland and Slaughter and May. Its own legal team is led by general counsel and company secretary Simon Gardiner.
