United Utilities warns teenagers of reservoir dangers in new film

Swimming in reservoirs is Not a Game, United Utilities is warning teenagers in a new campaign.

The water company has released a five minute awareness-raising film in the style of a computer game, showing a teenage boy trying to impress a girl.

The film, which is backed by emergency services in the North West, shows the boy succumb to hypothermia and die after ignoring “no swimming” signs at a reservoir.

Supporting the campaign, GP Sarah Jarvis said: “Swimming in a reservoir might seem fun but it can, quite literally, be lethal.

“Even on a warm day, the deep water in reservoirs remains very cold, sending the human body into shock.”
