A host of utilities leaders were recognised in the New Year honours list, with water consumer champion Diane McCrea awarded an MBE; Dr Nina Skorupska, chief executive of the Renewable Energy Association awarded a CBE; and Murdo Allan, director of Health, Safety, Sustainability and Technical Training at UK Power Networks awarded an OBE.
Also recognised were Barbara Green, senior executive officer at the Department of Energy and Climate Change (MBE); John Baxter, former group head of engineering at BP International (CBE); Christopher Murray, chief executive of Xoserve (MBE); Afsheen Rashid, founder and chief operating officer of Repowering London (MBE); and Philip Wolfe, founder and chairman of Westmill Solar Cooperation and Community Energy England (MBE).
Commenting on the honour for Diane McCrea, who chaired CCWater’s Wales committee for ten years until September 2015, CCWater chief executive Tony Smith said: “We’re delighted for Diane and it’s a fitting honour for someone who has done so much to protect the interests of water customers throughout Wales.
“It’s a testament to Diane’s hard work over the past decade that customer satisfaction with water and sewerage services in Wales is currently very high.”
McCrae – who also served as CCWater’s vice chair for England and Wales – was appointed chair of Natural Resources Wales in November 2015.
