United Utilities has begun using an AI system to speed up wastewater pipeline inspections and repairs by automating the review of CCTV footage from sewer and pipe networks. The AI system, which is checked by human review, cuts the routine inspection time from 10 days to two. The system was developed as part of UU's Innovation Lab in 2019 where Vapar collaborated with the water company to improve the accuracy of its AI.
