Shares in United Utilities have steadily climbed 10.6 per cent over the past month amidst talk of a potential takeover.
The water company’s shares peaked at 833.50 pence at 14.37 BST Monday afternoon, an increase of 80p since 14 April.
According to the Financial Times, the price rally may have been supported by talk of a potential takeover.
The newspaper cited trader speculation that LongRiver Partners, the Borealis-led consortium that last year tried and failed to buy Severn Trent, may have an interest in the company.
United Utilities declined to comment.
The company will announce its full-year results on May 22.
