Thames Water, South West Water and Wessex Water are among water companies on the look out for apprentices as part of National Apprentice Week.

Thames Water has launched a three year apprenticeship scheme where two trainees will work in its Reading-based science laboratory. This is the first time the company has looked for apprentices with a science background, but said it would still recruit apprentices for maintenance and engineering roles in the future.

Wessex Water is also looking for an apprentice to work within its science department. It will offer three places to trainees two of which will work in customer services. The apprentices will have an opportunity to gain additional qualifications such as an NVQ though Wessex’s partnership with City of Bristol College.

South West Water said it is expanding its apprentice scheme following an initial launch in 2011. It is recruiting trainees to work within its drinking water and technical services departments.
