Water Plus has installed atmospheric water generator units at its head office to create drinking water from air as part of the business’ sustainability commitments.
The organisation was recently recognised in the EcoVadis rankings for its corporate and social responsibility credentials, which also include a tree-planting programme with local schools and community groups.
The Air2Eau trial will see two units that each produce around 30 litres of drinking water per day at the head office to save carbon and water.
John Gordon, managing director of Air2Eau, explained the units connect to an energy supply and create water from the moisture in the air via a seven-stage filtration system. He added they can save up to three tonnes of carbon annually.
Laura McNamee, sustainability and customer products lead at Water Plus, said: “We’re committed to making sustainability and minimising our environmental impact core to our business, our people and our customers and these new units are just part of what we’re doing.”
She added the business is exploring innovative ways to meet its environmental commitments through the technical water services it provides to its customers.
The organisation offers data loggers and water meters with an online portal that lets its customers track consumption and identify how water savings can be made.
Water savings in the non-domestic market was a key focus of last week’s Water Saving Week to encourage people to think about how was is consumed outside of the home. The campaign by Waterwise reached 4.4 million people.
Throughout 2021 Water Plus is participating in the National Trust’s tree planting programme to grow 20 million trees that will create 2,023 metres of woodland.
