Water UK has named its new chief executive as transport expert Michael Roberts.
Roberts is currently the chief executive of the Association of Train Operating Companies and he is also the director-general of the Rail Delivery Group.
He has previously held roles at the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) working on policy development across a range of sectors, including environment, energy and transport. He has also served as a non-executive director of the Carbon Trust.
On his appointment, Roberts said: “I am delighted to be joining a sector where the hard work of so many people makes such an essential contribution to our way of life.
“I very much look forward to engaging with a wide range of organisations on behalf of Water UK’s members as this successful sector continues to evolve.”
He replaces Pamela Taylor, who announced in January she will stand down from the role in December after nearly 17 years as chief executive.
Roberts will take up the role no later than 1 January 2016, reporting to newly appointed chairman Sir Brian Bender.
Bender said: “The water industry is going through a period of significant change. Michael’s experience in other trade associations, in working in regulated sectors and in policy development will be invaluable as our members and stakeholders adapt to increasing competition”.
