Water sector organisations Waterwise and WaterSafe have teamed up to promote Water Saving Week which will run from 21 to 25 March 2016.
The campaign aims to raise awareness for customers to use water wisely, as the balance between supply and demand becomes tighter and droughts become increasingly common.
Water Saving Week will include five themes – water in the garden; water in the community; water in school, water in your workplace and water in your home – all with daily challenges and water saving tips.
Jacob Tompkins, Managing Director of Waterwise, said: “We’re building on the success of last year’s campaign with an exciting range of activities to raise awareness about the need to save water and share simple ideas and tips to help everyone do their bit.
“We’re also delighted that WaterSafe – the water industry-backed plumber accreditation scheme – has become an official partner of Water Saving Week, as there is clearly a strong link with plumbers who share advice with customers at home or work every day.”
In a blog for the Consumer Council for Water, Tompkins wrote: “Water companies do a good job of keeping the taps running but it’s a constant balancing act to ensure there is enough water for people, business, agriculture and the environment.
“Added to this there is a hidden energy angle. Pumping, treating and heating all this water for our homes uses a huge amount of energy and accounts for about 6 per cent of UK carbon emissions and is a big part of your household energy bill.”
