The "blue economy" has received a boost with the launch of a web portal providing free access to data about the UK's territorial waters and beyond by The Crown Estate today.
The Marine Data Exchange allows anyone to access data – including visual and landscape assessments – collected by the Crown Estate’s low carbon development partners.
It is hoped the free information will create a sustainable “blue economy” and opportunities for developer to build.
The Marine Data Exchange builds on the success of the previous collaborative offshore wind research into the environment data management system, as well as other national and European projects.
Pete Edmonds, The Crown Estate’s marine data manager, said: “Our marine Data Exchange utilises the latest technology to create an easily accessible hub for crucial data which will save businesses time and money and will help increase environmental sustainability.
“All of this will provide a measurable boost to the blue economy.”
