Wind energy has produced more than 5GW of electricity over a 24 hour period for the first time.
Between 9:30pm on Thursday 21 March and Friday 22 March, wind energy was generating enough electricity to power 10 per cent of the UK’s electricity needs.
A record for one off generation in a half hour period was also set at 3:30pm on Friday 22 March when 5.296GW of wind generated electricity was present on the grid.
Maria McCaffery, chief executive of Renewable UK, said: “What this shows is that wind is a stable and reliable source of power generation on the scale we need, when we need it most.”
