Consumers’ concerns about their energy bills have hit an all-time high, according to the Department of Energy and Climate Change’s (Decc’s) public attitudes tracker.
The survey of more than 2,000 people revealed that 59 per cent were worried about energy bills, up from a low of 49 per cent last year.
Despite the increase, the amount of thought people give to energy efficiency in the home remains about the same, with 26 per cent saying they give it a lot of thought.
The survey also revealed that homeowners are less concerned about energy efficiency than when the questions were previously posed, with people more likely to boil their kettles with too much water, leave lights on in empty rooms and heat rooms that are not being used.
The number of people who have a smart meter installed also appeared to have doubled, from 6 per cent to 12 per cent over the past year.
