Distribution network operator Western Power Distribution (WPD) has restored power to more than 93,000 customers across its network, following damage caused by Storm Imogen.
The latest storm to hit UK shores cut power to almost 100,000 customers across South West England and South Wales earlier this week, after wind speeds reached 90mph.
Western Power Distribution (WPD) confirmed that it connected 93,000 customers across its network in the 24 hours from Monday morning, after being prepared for its impact following advanced weather predictions.
The network operator dealt with 1,400 incidents in total, aided by its helicopter unit which deployed craft to locate network damage in North Devon and Cornwall, helping to speed up reconnection.
Teams were also sent to the worst affected areas in the South West England on Monday night from South Wales, the West Midlands and the East Midlands to assist with final restorations.
A spokesperson for WPD said: “Extra customer service staff were also on hand to advise customers, answering almost 21,000 calls in an average of around two seconds per call, while also proactively making contact with over 1,000 vulnerable customers on our priority service register.
“Our website also came into its own handling over 100,000 visits – the vast majority to access the live power cut information available on our outages map.”
Northern Powergrid and Scottish Hydro Electric Power reconnected 42,000 customers between them after the last storm, Storm Gertrude, hit the UK at the end of January.
